I’ve always dreamed of frolicking in the pristine blue waters with grinning dolphins like we are best buddies.   When I saw that this was offered as one of the excursions on my cruise to Puerto Vallarta, I jumped at the opportunity to realize my dream.  I was fully expected to be swimming alongside these majestic creatures and being awe-struck by their stunning aerial acrobatics.  It was all that and more.

For those of you who have never been, Puerto Vallarta is the stunning Mexican coastal paradise renowned for its turquoise waters, breathtaking landscapes, and rich marine life.  Nestled along the picturesque Banderas Bay, Puerto Vallarta is home to several world-class dolphinariums that provide visitors with an up-close and personal encounter with these intelligent marine mammals.

My group arrived at the dolphinarium, giddy with anticipation of an unforgettable experience and it did not disappoint.  From the moment I caught my first glimpse of the dolphins, I couldn’t wait to join them in the pool.  But first we had a brief orientation by the knowledgeable trainer on the dos and don’ts because the last thing we wanted to do was harm the dolphins by accident.

As we dipped into the refreshing water, we were greeted by the pod, their friendly eyes and playful demeanor immediately putting us at ease. The vibrant energy radiating from these beautiful creatures was contagious.  First, the trainer had the dolphins circle us in the water allowing us to establish a connection with them. He then had the gentle mammals flip over so we could rub their bellies while they smiled like gleeful pets.

But the adventure was just beginning. With a mixture of awe and nervousness, I prepared for the highlight of the experience: riding the dolphins. The trainer carefully positioned me on its belly, and as it gracefully glided through the water, I felt an unparalleled rush of exhilaration.  And just when I think the experience couldn’t get any better, I was skimming through the water with a dolphin on each arm.  How incredible was that?

When we were done playing with them, the dolphins launched themselves into the air, performing somersaults and acrobatic feats that left us breathless. With their powerful tails propelling them high above the water, they showcase their natural grace and agility, captivating our every sense. It was as if they were inviting us into their world, showcasing their talents and sharing their joy of life with us.
